Engagement ring shopping can be a difficult task at the best of times, there’s a lot to consider; the price, the size, the cut, the band, the colour? We’ve made a quick list of the basics so you don’t get too caught up!
First things first, make sure you tell the jeweller about your partner’s lifestyle i.e. their job and hobbies as this can be an important part of what material ring you should opt for and what setting of the stone you should as some are more prone to damage and some can be easier to clean etc.
You also need to consider their style i.e. the colours they often wear, materials and what kind of style they go for. You don’t want to be buying a coloured stone that doesn’t go with any of their outfits!
A big concern is usually the cost; make sure you set out a budget so the jeweller can help you get what you’re looking for within your budget.
Don’t forget to get the measurements! It can be very disappointing when the ring doesn’t fit and you have to wait for it to be re-sized. There're a few ways you can get around this but a commonly spread one is a string around the finger while they sleep (tip: make sure it’s the right one!).
Protect it; make sure you insure your ring to avoid any mishaps!
Ok, there are some basics covered and your jeweller will help you along the way to make things that bit easier. Below are some of the names of different shaped stones so you have an idea, your fiancée-to-be may have mentioned a particular ring they liked before (hint-hint) maybe you’ll recognise the shape;
